Durango

Located in Mexico’s northern region, Durango’s climate is dry throughout most of the year and rainy in the summer. This state has a cultural heritage of strong traditions and excellent cuisine. It also offers many magnificent natural environments. The mountain areas and deserts are ideal for outdoor activities like hiking; at such reserves as Michilia and Mapimi you can observe diverse flora and fauna. In the mysterious Zona del Silencio, many visitors swear that they have had paranormal experiences and sensed other strange phenomena. Nearby, in the caverns of the Sierra del Rosario and at the so-called Espinazo del Diablo, you can go cave diving. At Saltito, you can go camping beside a spectacular waterfall with a 20-meter (66-foot) drop, while at the Guadalupe Victoria Dam, you can go fishing in the middle of a forest.

The city of Durango, the state capital, has beautiful civic and religious buildings, such as the Cathedral, the Templo de Santa Ana and the Casa del Conde de Suchil. Here you can also attend the Durango National Fair, an important event that commemorates the city’s founding with regional dance, as well as polka and rondalla music. At the markets, you can buy traditional crafts such as ceramics, wool garments, embroidered items and various products made of vegetable fibers by the Tepehuano Indians.
In Durango’s surrounding areas, you can visit the town of Chupaderos, which was a famous film location site for Hollywood westerns.

Ysy Mexico Missions 2010

8 days with 23 different missionaries traveling around Mexico to spread the word of christianity. Such a life changing experience growing with my brothers and sisters on this team and experiencing God’s work. We had such a great time playing on the 19 hour bus rides but got serious during Vbs. This was for my mom but now its just a video for all the memories i had in Mexico.

U.S. Citizens In Nuevo Laredo Are On Lock Down – U.S. State Department Issue Updated Travel Warnings

The U.S. Department of State has issued an updated Travel Warning to inform U.S. citizens traveling to and living in Mexico about the security situation in Mexico. The authorized departure of family members of U.S. government personnel from U.S. consulates in the northern Mexico border cities of Tijuana, Nogales, Ciudad Juarez, Nuevo Laredo, Monterrey and Matamoros remains in place.

This Travel Warning supersedes the Travel Warning for Mexico dated May 6, 2010 to note the extension of authorized departure and to update guidance on security conditions and crime.

The State Department said millions of U.S. citizens safely visit Mexico each year. This includes tens of thousands who cross the border every day for study, tourism or business and at least one million U.S. citizens who live in Mexico. The Mexican government makes a considerable effort to protect U.S. citizens and other visitors to major tourist destinations. Resort areas and tourist destinations in Mexico do not see the levels of drug-related violence and crime reported in the border region and in areas along major drug trafficking routes. Nevertheless, crime and violence are serious problems. While most victims of violence are Mexican citizens associated with criminal activity, the security situation poses serious risks for U.S. citizens as well.

Is Mexico Safe? Puerto Vallarta

I was recently asked to help discuss the problem of promoting Mexico while they have had a number of promotional set backs from news coming into the US. The answer was answering direct questions about the situation and educate about the differences between a border town and the relationship of where bad things have happened. I admit that I would have no problem traveling anywhere in Mexico, particularly in resort areas like Puerto Vallarta. The numbers are simply too microscopic to to worry about something awful happening, which can happen anywhere at almost any time.
